“I cannot believe that in terms of grandeur and majesty there can be found anything in the world to rival Dominica’s succession of forest-covered mountains,” British novelist Alec Waugh wrote in 1948. “It is green, all green.”

Dominica is known as “The Nature Island of the Caribbean” due to its spectacular, lush, and varied flora and fauna, and for lovers of nature it is a vast green playground, untouched by chain properties, casinos or duty-free shops. It’s also known as one of the happiest nations on earth according to some happy indexes. Our adventure combines accommodations at a beautiful eco-resort, daily spa treatments & yoga, and as much adventure as you are willing to sign up for. Choose hiking (moderate or extreme), kayaking, snorkeling, cooking class, massage class, even a drumming class. Come along with us to Champagne Beach to relax in warm volcanic bubbles, hike to thundering Victoria Falls, and pamper yourself at the stunning spa with a view!

Saturday: Fly in to the beautiful and remote Dominica today. Transportation will be waiting to take you to our beautiful eco-resort. Upon arrival you can check in to your room, clean up in your outdoor shower, and admire the gorgeous surroundings. Before dinner, our group will meet by the pool for informal introductions and a welcome drink. Later, we’ll proceed to the open-air dining room for our first taste of the chef’s delightful Caribbean cuisine!

Sunday – Thursday: Your week in Dominica will be as action-packed or relaxed as you please! Choose your daily spa treatment and enjoy all meals in the open-air resort dining room with a view. Yoga practice is offered daily, as well. The schedule for the week will allow you to choose from a variety of options each day. These will include opportunities to hike, snorkel, kayak, and join in cultural activities or classes in the evenings. All of these options are included with your Sol Sister Adventures trip, but none are required. Below is only a small sampling of your options:

Yoga: Beginner’s level Yoga Class (offered every day)

Snorkel at Famous Champagne Beach: At Champagne Beach, swim through unique Underwater volcanic bubbles while you explore the diverse sea-life at Dominica’s premier marine reserve. (Sea horses, turtles and a variety of tropical fish are often sighted!). Another 10 minutes drive will take you to Soufriere for a fruit picnic on the beach and for enjoying a relaxing bath in warm bubbles from the underground; volcanic gasses seep through the ocean floor, cooled by the sea’s waves flowing in over a stone wall, creating a perfect soaking temperature.

Perdu Temps Hike: Retrace the footsteps of Dominica’s “maroons” (run-away slaves). This hike is part of the historic Perdu Temps trail and takes about one and a half hour through secondary forest, mainly flat terrain and some river crossings. It gets steep and narrow as you approach the end and opens up to an area often described as “paradise” or “The Garden of Eden”! Pick fresh fruits off the trees, explore Pump’s isolated organic farm with a huge variety of exotic fruits and vegetables and tour Pump’s “healing garden” with an assortment of healing plants/natural medicine. Pump’s and his family warmly welcome you to their home, which they kindly open to our guests. This tour is a guest “favorite” and should not be missed!

Heritage Tour of the Southeast: Explore the nearby villages of Delices and Petit Savanne. Learn about the Bay oil industry, which is one of the primary economic activities of Dominica’s southeast. Visit a primitive bay oil distillery that still uses the traditional fire wood technique. Learn about the harvesting and production of Arrowroots and Cassava. Also, visit one of Petit Savanne’s backyard rum stills where the local “Zayed” (Moonshine) rum is produced.

Caribbean Cooking Class: Learn how to prepare local Caribbean cuisine and take a taste of Dominica home with you!

Friday: Our farewell breakfast will be a meal for sharing memories of our trip, and making plans to return, as we will not want to leave this beautiful jungle playground. Following breakfast, we will pack and depart for the airport.

Most travelers from the US to Dominica have traditionally connected on major carriers like American Airlines, Jet Blue airlines and United Airways through San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) and continue to Dominica on a domestic carrier such as LIAT. As a result of recent flight reductions to San Juan visitors to Dominica should expand their flight search to a growing number of US connections through other Caribbean islands including Antigua (ANU), St. Lucia (SLU or UVF), St. Maarten (SXM), and Barbados (BGI) connection with LIAT or through St. Maarten by Winair (Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday) to Dominica.
